Iām Anisha, a Fitness Pilates Coach and mom of two little girls.
I am of Indian heritage, raised between the Middle East and Australia. English is my first language, although I have a funny accent because I've moved around!
As a Pilates teacher, I love working with people from different cultural backgrounds and physical abilities. I have experience with supporting people with various physical conditions such as back, shoulder, neck and knee pains as well pregnant and post-natal women.
Three tough pregnancies, a miscarriage, a traumatic birth and motherhood made me feel disconnected from my body, exhausted, lonely and in pain. I struggled to prioritize myself and felt unable to keep up with my children.
I knew exercise was important, but I found it hard to motivate myself to move. I struggled with body image issues and felt judged for my physical appearance and abilities at my neighbourhood studio and gym. I was looking for a Pilates coach and a community of mothers who could understand the challenges of being postpartum.
āI took things into my own hands and realized I had to prioritize myself. I set small goals of movement and exercise. It took a lot of consistency, discipline and determination, but over time I was able to reconnect with my body, feel stronger and more energetic than I ever did before!
I attended mindfulness and behavior change classes to keep myself motivated. I did therapy to work on my body image issues and heal from my past trauma. I participated in workshops on how to use movement and exercise to cope with the stresses of life and motherhood.
My journey has made me realize that exercise is powerful and can not only heal your body but also heal your mind. This inspired me to share my experience and the tools I learned along the way with other mothers struggling with the same issues.
